The philosophy of Twinpalms Phuket:
The unique design of Twinpalms Phuket Resort was created by Martin Palleros, one of the top landscape architects in the Asia-Pacific region. The aim of the development was to produce a property with an integrated landscape that works in harmony with nature. All the rooms and suites overlook the manicured grounds and benefit from having their own private garden, a feature which can be viewed from the oversized bathroom. The concern for the aesthetic has resulted in a beautiful and serene setting which has a modern, romantic twist. The architectural lines are fresh, clean and blend seamlessly with the environment. In order to conserve the use of electricity at Twinpalms Phuket, the rooms and suites have many elements governed by computer. For example, the lights and the air-conditioning system are automatically shut-down if the doors to the room have been left open for more than a few minutes. Other features include central remote control, which offers an overview of the room status, as well as time-of-day controlled lights. In addition, each room has a main power switch that enables the management of energy usage to be centralised and efficiently regulated by the resident. The ethos of energy conservation is continued through to the public areas of the property. All the restaurants at Twinpalms Phuket require minimal air-conditioning as they have an ‘open door’ policy. The practice allows the volume of power consumed by each outlet to be lowered and brought in line with the eco-conscious philosophy of the hotel. So that the volume of waste created by Twinpalms Phuket Resort can be reduced, it is treated before it is released. All waste disposal is regulated following a strict recycle policy, while the waste water is filtered to remove as many impurities as possible. Outside of the resort complex, Twinpalms Phuket has a significant presence amongst the local community. Even though all the beaches in Thailand are Public property, the hotel feels that it is responsible for the stretch of scenic coastline used by the business and its’ clients. Each day the immediate area is cleaned and maintained, with the entire Surin beach receiving similar attention once a week. The hotel supports local businesses as often as it can. Even though some of the produce used at Twinpalms Phuket has to be obtained from overseas, the majority is sourced from nearby markets. Manufactured goods, such as beauty products, are provided by organic and actively eco-friendly local enterprises. Whenever possible, the hotel only conducts business with like-minded companies. All the art-work found around the complex is created by Phuket residents. Phuket also provides over 90% of the workforce at Twinpalms Phuket, from the most junior position to the Hotel management. Overall, the steps taken during the design process, the mature level of social responsibility and the continual eco-focused activities at Twinpalms Phuket have mitigated the impact of property on the community and the locality. The standards and the philosophy of the hotel work to ensure the positive reputation of Twinpalms on Phuket and the longevity of the natural beauty of the island for generations to come.
When to go:
You’ll hear many opinions about the best time of year to visit Phuket – and, in fact, it is probably quite a personal question. During low season (summer and the rainy season) the island is quieter and traffic is easier. Some people may be put off by the rougher seas and some beaches will have a strong undertow. It is not always safe to swim as the sea reacts to the weather. Swimming for children in particular is probably not safe unless you seek protected waters on the bay side of the island. October to April (cold weather season in the northern hemisphere) is high season as people escape their harsh winters and flock to nicer climates. Some people suggest November to February as the high season, when the island is its very busiest. If you enjoy the nightlife and crowds, it’s a good time to come. If you are a people watcher so it is also a fun time to just sip a beer and watch people walk by. Winter is also the time of year when the sea is calmer and so perhaps better for scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming in the sea. In truth, there is no bad time to visit the Phuket area you’ll be comfiest in beachwear and flip-flops no matter what time of year you arrive. Rain or shine, Phuket is hot!

Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, features 29 Buddhist temples or Wats. The largest of these is Wat Chalong. Devout Buddhists and curious tourists alike flock to this sacred place to worship, pray or explore another culture. Thai travelers believe that no visit to Phuket is complete without a stop at Wat Chalong. When in Thailand, do as the locals do and visit this revered and sacred place to discover Buddhism, or simply marvel in the temple’s beauty. The history of Wat Chalong is shrouded in mystery and turmoil. The exact origin of the temple is unknown, although many historians and locals believe the base structure was constructed during the reign of Kim Rama II (1809-1842). In 1876, under the regime of Kim Rama V, Wat Chalong was the site of refuge for the locals against a group of rioting tin miners. The temple’s abbot, Luang Pho Chaem, served as a source of strength to the frightened visitors and was later immortalized in by the erection of a statue in the temple’s main hall.
Through the years, the temple underwent several facelifts and renovations, the most recent being the construction of a pagoda to hold a bone fragment from the Lord Buddha. The fragment was purchased from Sri Lanka in 1999 and interred in this Grand Pagoda in 2002. In the Main Hall you’ll find two cans filled with long bamboo sticks. Pick up one of the cans and shake it carefully until one of the sticks makes it way to the top and falls to the floor. Locate a number on the stick and take the first right corner. There, you’ll find a wooden cabinet with several drawers. Locate the drawer that corresponds to your number and choose a slip of paper inside to reveal your fortune. Many locals and tourists visit the main hall to receive an answer to a significant question. On the floor near an alter depicting the Lord Buddha you’ll find two red wooden blocks. Ask your question and toss the blocks, which appear to be two halves of a circle, onto the floor. If the blocks land one side down and one side up, your answer is “yes.” If the blocks land with both sides facing the same direction, its “no.” Whichever answer you receive, leave a donation at this alter. All the proceeds go toward Wat Chalong’s conservation. […]

Arriving from all over the world, travelers flock to Phuket for relaxation and adventure, and the island rates as one of the most popular destinations in Thailand. Part of the draw is that Phuket has an exceptional climate. The monsoon arrives here earlier than on the other side of the gulf, with rain only once or twice a day during the rainy period.
If you’re visiting Phuket Island for the first time and want to stay in the heart of the action, popular Patong Beach is a great location, near the buzz of Bangla Road with its shops, restaurants, and lively entertainment venues.
