On the southwest coast of Bali, on a long silky stretch of sand facing the Indian Ocean, Hotel Tugu Bali, standing against the warm glow of the setting sun, is a poet’s dream come true.  The road to Tugu on Canggu Beach leads one to the heart and soul of Bali, where the wind whispers romantic tales of Balinese spirits, ancient kingdoms and eternal love stories. At Tugu, get lost in the narrow, labyrinth-like walkways inside the wild gardens, and submerge into a world of surreal beauty. The hotel is designed to bring back to life the romantic, forgotten tales of Java and Bali.

Hotel Tugu Bali is home to one of the largest original art collections in Southeast Asia. The main building, the Bale Agung, features distinctive architecture inspired by a secluded village in Central Bali, whereas some of the public areas are original hundreds-years-old structures moved in entirety into the property. The suites are housed in individual buildings tucked in lush tropical gardens and natural lotus pond facing the Indian Ocean.

Tugu Hotels are an award winning collection of luxury art boutique hotels born out of one man’s love and passion for Indonesia’s romantic history. This man grew from a poor student in the 1960s to become the biggest antique collector in the country by far, and instead of keeping the antiques as his private collection, he decided they must play a role in the telling of Indonesia’s most romantic history and centuries old-legends. Each hotel’s architecture and interior reflect the art, culture and history of Indonesia. We have four unique properties throughout Indonesia in Bali, Lombok, Malang and Blitar, as well as 5 restaurants in Bali and Jakarta, and each of them carries a very rich and colourful theme and soul of each place.

A vast collection of priceless Indonesian antiques and artworks adorns each hotel, blending its surroundings with a rather ethereal ambience and magical landscapes. Every Tugu property has hundreds of stories to tell from different eras, which are also portrayed in every experience that guests can have at Tugu whether it’s dining, spa, romantic proposals or cultural activities.

The Tugu mission is to bring back to life the art, soul and romance of Indonesia’s yesteryears.

When to go?

Bali is generally a fantastic place to visit all year round, so the best time to visit Bali really comes down to your own personal preferences, although there are a number of factors that may influence your decision. Depending on the kind of experience you want to have, where you’ll be visiting and the types of things you want to do while you’re there, the best time to visit Bali will differ. As a tropical destination, Bali’s weather is generally fairly mild and pleasant year round however the major seasonal difference falls between the wet and dry seasons. The wet season falls from November to April and is a little hotter and definitely more humid, with brief but heavy torrential rainfall during the day, however this rainfall does little to impact on tours and activities. The dry season falls from May to October and is certainly thought of as one of the best times to visit Bali as the sun is always out and the ocean inviting. Although the weather is better for sunbathing, swimming and outdoor activities it also means that Bali in general is a lot busier.

Tugu Bali: a sampling of paradise on earth

Tugu Bali isn’t a typical Indonesian island retreat. Located in the sleepy town of Canggu, just steps from the beach, the hotel has ditched the identikit white-on-white design concept in favor of creating a true sense of place. The soaring thatched lobby is modeled after a traditional ceremonial hall and features a towering 4.9-meter tall statue of Garuda carved from a 120-year-old tree and pillars adorned with carved wooden heads. It feels as if it were built for reliquary purposes rather than greeting guests. Tugu Bali is designed to bring back to life the romantic, forgotten tales of Java and Bali. The hotel, owned by an Indonesian who has been collecting antiques since the early 1960s, is home to one of the largest original art collections in South-East Asia.

The main building, the Bale Agung, features a distinctive architecture inspired by a secluded village in Central Bali, whereas some of the public areas are original hundreds-years-old structures moved in entirety into the property. The suites are housed in individual buildings tucked in lush tropical gardens and natural lotus pond facing the Indian Ocean.

All guest accommodations are within steps from the beach. All ground floor suites (Dedari Suites) have private plunge pool and open air bathroom, whereas the second floor suites (Rejang Suite) have ocean-view and private spa area with unique sunken tub. Hotel Tugu Bali recounts the most romantic tales, folklores and legends of Indonesia, one room at a time. Each room individually created by the owner, displaying his immaculate attention to detail reconstructed to provide blend of colour, texture and atmosphere. The design, stunning and dramatic is blended together with the vast and eclectic collection of antiques of owner, from all over Asia. All designed with a vibrant spirit, the passion for the art, soul and romance of Indonesia. All rooms benefit from complimentary Wi-Fi and safe, as well as use of the hotel’s book, DVD and music library. A comprehensive concierge service is also at guests’ disposal, including complimentary airport transfers, 24 hour reception and laundry and dry-cleaning service. Choose the ground floor for private garden space or the first floor for stunning views.
